My name is Robert van der Zwan. I am working for the TILT-c
(Teaching with Independent Learning technologies) Project at Glasgow
University. Within this framework I am working at the development of
a CAL application for undergraduate history students, which will
focus on textual analysis. We will use texts on political philosophy
from the 17th and 18th century.
Currently I am evaluating software for textual analysis. (You will
find the checklist I use, attached to this file). This software will
probably be combined with authoring software to develop the CAL
application.
From a front-end (developed with the authoring software, possibly
Toolbook) students will have access to the texts, background
information and the analysis tool (possibly TACT version 2.1).
At the moment we are seriously considering the use of Tact in
combination with Toolbook, but there are other options as well. One
of them is using a programming language.
Therefore I am interested to know:
- whether ICON can meet the requirements for the text analysis tool
stated in the attached checklist.
- whether ICON can be combined with authoring software (like Toolbook
f.e.)
- is ICON available for the PC platform (since our institute is PC
based.)
- whether you could give a rough indication of how much time would
be involved to develop an analysis tool (as described in the attached
file) using ICON, for a non experienced programmer.
- whether you have any information on similar projects.
I would be very grateful if you could answer my query. If you need
more information about the project do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Drs. Robert M. van der Zwan
